The Art of getting by (2011)

Few movies are the feel good kind of movies and few of’em are inspirational and very few are like you feel you are into the movie. And this is one such of very few. I started watching the movie and wished that the movie never ended. With every passing minute I was drowning into the movie & wished I never surface up.
A modest guy who is in love with sketching and is a misanthropist, is bullied by his teachers for his nonchalance towards the subject. He meets a girl who happens to be his classmate and they hang out to know each other. They discuss the things where the girl is more participating, and she tries her best to make him speak and open up. The boy surely has feelings for her, a deep one, but its his behaviour that makes him stop. There is something about the guy that gets her curious about him. One fine day she admits that, here is the conversation and also the best part of the movie.

*Girl: Will you have sex with me?
*Boy: <blank faced>
Now how can that be swallowed by the guy like him who is modest and not to forget a misanthropist. She pulls down her best before him to make him realize what she feels for him. Now how the boy does react to this? Will he be lost in melancholy or will he realize her feelings and express his feelings for her too. Love is a difficult thing; & it can get worse if you screw the correct timing to express. You cannot have one fall for you, with the deceptive and embellishing talks. It is not necessary that you express it in a dramatically or royal manner, all you need to do is, express it from your heart.  It handles the next part.

The simplicity, the background score & the performance has such a taste of addiction in it that you just can’t rest with once. The movie is flowing and you feel to catch every bit that is flowing. At the end of the movie I was left with one word, and that’z WOW!!

I rate this art:  3.5/5

TANGLED TIMEPASS

TIMEPASS (2014) (Marathi)

LOVE!! A strange feeling that is encountered by every individual. This feeling is so rational, that it doesnot see any age, community or caste/religion. A signing of a silent understanding between two hearts. Question is  about guarantee, how can you guarantee a love? What if he/she is bluffing, what if all this is just a TIMEPASS??

Ravi Jadhav after his acclaimed movie BALAK PALAK where the teenagers had delivered an impeccable performance, this time is back with teenagers again who are the protagonists. In this era where everyone is busy making & digesting new age romance, Jadhav serves you the old age love story, that still seems quiet sweet and un-avoidable. Story is about a kid who flunked his SSC exams and a college going girl who fall for each other in a unique manner called TIMEPASS (TP). The friends of Dagadu (Prathamesh) convinces him that, if he had to achieve a good score then he needs to have a TP in his life, pointing towards the chicks in their campus. The pointed finger introduces Pa-ra-ja-kt-aa (Ketaki) who is a well dressed homicidal girl, with 2 ponies. His friends call her a perfect MM (Marriage Material). Everything starts on the edge of a timepass but what happens when both the love-birds take their flight? What you think is destined for them? The answers to these questions will be answered by Jadhav in the sequel.

There are number of such naïve as well as sensible discussions that will carry you back in the age when libraries used to play an important role in the love stories & had a unique way of expressing it. Even the adults will be forced to rethink about LOVE, and the youngsters to understand the logic behind Love. The moment we understand it, the movie no longer seems a TIMEPASS. That is the magic he delivers. I wont give out any more of the story, because I don’t want to screw the magic and the heavenly feeling of this amazing film. But at the end you will be left with wanting more, and the next more can be felt only after Jadhav releases its sequel.
The background score is another factor that adds the like factor to this movie. The second half seems a bit stretched and an item song that shows up from no-where, if barred then, Jadhav is surely going to impress you.

Final Word: If you are willing to have a time pass, please drop your idea of watching it. But if you are looking for a really sense making movie, go for this one, because this one my friends is just not a TIMEPASS!!

I Loved this TIMEPASS and award it with:  4.5/5

Mesmerizing Highway...

HIGHWAY (2014)

Imtiaz Ali movies have a specific tone that doesnot alter in any of his movies. The protagonist is not happy with his/her present life and wishes to be ‘free’. Somehow, the protagonist gets what he/she had wished for, with the help of some other person. This is the bottom line of his writing, but what makes it an adorable writing is, the freshness in the story. You get so connected to the movie, that everything seems to be natural, and that is how he rings the victory bell.

Story: A life that every girl desires and dreams about it eyes shut, remains arrested in their eyes and they fail to materialize it. Veera Tripathi (Alia Bhatt) has one such dream of building her house in the hills and breathing the air that she wants to and not the one that is fed her. From the trailers, it was quiet easy to fathom about her kidnapping and she enjoying the part of kidnapping, but the reason behind her happiness and what happens after, is a story that deeply touches every like minded girl and would love to experience. Randeep Hooda & Alia Bhatt who are two incomplete souls, not the love birds kind of incomplete souls, but the souls that did not meet the deserved happiness in their life. Alia gives her best to define her sorrow and her comfortable nature with Randeep, her statement, “Jaha se tum mujhe laaye ho, me wahan wapas nhi jana chaahti, jaha bhi le ja rahe ho, waha pahunchna nhi chaahti, par ye raasta, ye bohot acchha hai, mein chahti hu ki ye raasta kabhi khatam na ho”, this part is very truly experienced through the journey. The brutalized soul of Randeep who at regular intervals keep threatening to sell her to a brothel, suddenly undergoes a change when he learns her part of sorrow. He at one part knows that, this is all going to end soon, and the end is going to be BAD, but yet he leaps the horror of the end and conquers her heart and lives the completeness of his incomplete life. Alia also finds a peace and turns into the girl that she actually wanted to be.
Cinematography: The film drives you along the six states, from salt grounds of Rajasthan to the heavenly Kashmir, the capturing of the nature has been done most prominently. The journey tho driven in a truck doesnot exhaust you, but will fill your heat with the freshness.
Performance: Alia Bhatt & Randeep Hooda wears the character perfectly, and play a beautiful role in the journey. To be more precise Alia overshadows Randeep. Their performance keep you blushing, intrigued and love’em more.

Music & Background score: Both of them dress the movie perfectly and the touch of A.R.Rahman’s voice, makes it a brand. The songs live up to the situation and fits perfectly.

Final Word: Imtiaz Ali succeeds to open the hearts once again and live into it. A journey worth experiencing. Make sure you take a ride along this HIGHWAY.

The road to this HIGHWAY scores:    4/5
