Mesmerizing Highway...

HIGHWAY (2014)

Imtiaz Ali movies have a specific tone that doesnot alter in any of his movies. The protagonist is not happy with his/her present life and wishes to be ‘free’. Somehow, the protagonist gets what he/she had wished for, with the help of some other person. This is the bottom line of his writing, but what makes it an adorable writing is, the freshness in the story. You get so connected to the movie, that everything seems to be natural, and that is how he rings the victory bell.

Story: A life that every girl desires and dreams about it eyes shut, remains arrested in their eyes and they fail to materialize it. Veera Tripathi (Alia Bhatt) has one such dream of building her house in the hills and breathing the air that she wants to and not the one that is fed her. From the trailers, it was quiet easy to fathom about her kidnapping and she enjoying the part of kidnapping, but the reason behind her happiness and what happens after, is a story that deeply touches every like minded girl and would love to experience. Randeep Hooda & Alia Bhatt who are two incomplete souls, not the love birds kind of incomplete souls, but the souls that did not meet the deserved happiness in their life. Alia gives her best to define her sorrow and her comfortable nature with Randeep, her statement, “Jaha se tum mujhe laaye ho, me wahan wapas nhi jana chaahti, jaha bhi le ja rahe ho, waha pahunchna nhi chaahti, par ye raasta, ye bohot acchha hai, mein chahti hu ki ye raasta kabhi khatam na ho”, this part is very truly experienced through the journey. The brutalized soul of Randeep who at regular intervals keep threatening to sell her to a brothel, suddenly undergoes a change when he learns her part of sorrow. He at one part knows that, this is all going to end soon, and the end is going to be BAD, but yet he leaps the horror of the end and conquers her heart and lives the completeness of his incomplete life. Alia also finds a peace and turns into the girl that she actually wanted to be.
Cinematography: The film drives you along the six states, from salt grounds of Rajasthan to the heavenly Kashmir, the capturing of the nature has been done most prominently. The journey tho driven in a truck doesnot exhaust you, but will fill your heat with the freshness.
Performance: Alia Bhatt & Randeep Hooda wears the character perfectly, and play a beautiful role in the journey. To be more precise Alia overshadows Randeep. Their performance keep you blushing, intrigued and love’em more.

Music & Background score: Both of them dress the movie perfectly and the touch of A.R.Rahman’s voice, makes it a brand. The songs live up to the situation and fits perfectly.

Final Word: Imtiaz Ali succeeds to open the hearts once again and live into it. A journey worth experiencing. Make sure you take a ride along this HIGHWAY.

The road to this HIGHWAY scores:    4/5
